Lana Bolycheva is an award-winning filmmaker, director, and writer known for crafting socially conscious comedies that blend humor with profound themes. Her work often incorporates science fiction and fantastical elements to explore fundamental questions at the heart of the human experience. Through her storytelling, she raises compelling inquiries such as: How do you know if someone truly loves you? What happens after you die? Who decides our fates?

With professional experience across Russia, Europe, and the United States, Lana is an NYU Tisch Graduate Film alumna with a background in acting and film directing from Russia’s top institutions. Her nuanced approach to working with actors and her dedication to character-driven narratives have earned her acclaim. Her body of work includes Oscar-qualifying short films such as Let My Grandpa Into Heaven (premiered at the Austin Film Festival), Parenthood 2050, and Kis.

Currently, Lana is developing several projects including Dysphoria and Viva la Menstruación!

Dysphoria is a satirical feature-length thriller about an immigrant trapped in the Russian Embassy in New York, engulfed by the labyrinthine bureaucratic machinery of Russia. This film continues Lana’s tradition of addressing contemporary issues through engaging and thought-provoking storytelling.

Viva la Menstruación! is a documentary exploring and celebrating menstruation’s untold power and wisdom. This project delves into the cultural, emotional, and physical layers of a natural cycle often misunderstood and stigmatized in today’s society.
